Running and Starting Mounjaro Day 1 – The Weight Loss Journey Begins

I’ve started vlogging over on Youtube to document my journey using the prescription weight loss drug Mounjaro.

Here’s the video and I’ve added the transcript below too.

What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro also known as tirzepatide is an injectable weight loss drug which mimics natural GLP-1 and GIP hormones in your gut, helping you control your appetite and making you feel fuller for longer. When paired with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, it results in effective, healthy weight loss. [source]

So, I’ve been running for about 7 years. I did Couch to 5K, really enjoyed it, and went through a very productive spell of shifting some weight and getting good times. But gradually, over the last 4 years, the weight’s come back on.

I’m currently 17 stone and 43 years old, and I kind of want to lose weight. I find it really hard. I’m very active, but something in me constantly wants to eat food. If I’m bored, I’ll eat food. If I’m feeling stressed, I’ll eat food. If I’m tired, I’ll eat food. Basically, I eat food quite a lot. I’ve tried different diets and find it really hard to stick to them.

As I said, the active stuff isn’t too hard for me to do, but I need to lose some weight. I’ve decided to take the prescription drug Mounjaro. You can read up about how it works, but for me, it’s two things. One, it makes you feel full for longer, which is pretty cool. But the big one for me is that it’s meant to stop you thinking about food as much.

Something needs to switch off in there and help me get through without constantly craving or wanting food. I’m hoping that helps me. As a runner, I thought it would be quite interesting to see how it might affect me as well—energy levels, if the drug has any side effects—but hopefully, it will help me shift some weight.

I’m 17 stone at the moment. I weighed myself this morning and took the first injection a couple of hours ago. Obviously, I’m not going to see anything at the moment, but this is day one of a record of me taking the drug Mounjaro while also trying to keep up with a running routine.

My running at the moment involves some training using my Garmin, and that’s giving me different runs to do. I’m about to go out and do a progression run. That’s a 5-minute warm-up, a 40-minute run at an easy pace, 10 minutes at a faster tempo pace, and a 5-minute cool-down. It should be about an hour of running. This has been gradually increasing over the past eight weeks. I thought I’d give one of these little plans a go to try and get back some fitness.

Those runs are going to get longer and tougher. Hopefully, it will be twofold: increased exercise should help me lose weight, and if I’m also losing weight, my body should be dealing with things a little better. But who knows? I’ve seen people get good results, so I’ll keep up on this. But it’s just day one.

Mounjaro is a prescription drug, so it’s not something you can get over the counter. After doing research, I decided to use Med Express to set myself up. The process is really easy. You need to decide what treatment you want. I went for Mounjaro, the initial starting dose of 2.5 mg a week. It costs around £150 for the month, so it’s not cheap and not something to consider lightly. But I’ve tried everything, and I’m thinking that’s actually a small price to pay for hopefully losing weight and being healthier. In the long run, it should be a worthwhile investment.

I got a promo code as well. They do an affiliate program where if someone gives you a promo code, you get £40 off your first prescription, and they also get some money off. I have that prescription code, and I’ll put it in the comments here. It just means that for your first dose, it will cost about £10 instead.

It’s not about the money, but hey, if you want to do that—awesome. The process on Med Express is to go on there, put in your details—your height, your weight, which works out your BMI—answer some questions, and then upload a photo. I think this is probably to check your identity and confirm that you actually need it.

I had to send in a few photos to get approved because the lighting wasn’t right or I had some baggy clothes on. Once approved, it arrived in the post. It took a couple of days to come through. I’ll show you what’s in the pack. I did a little video when it first arrived, so I’m going to insert that now, and you can see what you get.

I’ve just opened my delivery from Med Express, and I have my pen for Mounjaro—that’s 4 weeks’ worth, the initial starting dose of 2.5 mg. I’ve got a sharps box, some needles, and some alcohol swabs as well.

As you can see, I’m slightly sweaty. I just did my run—7.12 km. All really boring stuff. You do not need to know this, actually, so I don’t know why I’m saying it. But just letting you know—I’ve gone for a run.

Let’s see how the rest of the day pans out on day one of Mounjaro. If you have any questions or want to know more, pop a comment below, and I’ll do my best to answer them. Probably, day one, you won’t have too many questions, but hopefully, if I do another post in a week or so, I might have some updates. We’ll see.
